Ki had exploratory surgery last night, but they found no obstruction in his GI tract. They did find a calcified nodule in free-floating in his abdomen, and removed it. It's about the size of a large lima bean. Ir certainly could have made him uncomfortable ( Read more... )

Patches made it through another vet visit yesterday morning. I treated her for an upper respiratory infection a month ago. It returned, so this time she was given a different, stronger antibiotic. She's prone to these sneezy colds; I hope this med kicks it. I must remember to give her some yogurt once the course of antibiotics is done ( Read more... )

This morning I got up at 7, way too early a Saturday morning (at least for me) so I could take Patches to the vet to have her glucose level tested. She's been on insulin for 3 days, and her glucose is lower, but still high. She has been drinking noticeably less water the last couple days though, and seems more energetic than she has been recently. ( Read more... )

I picked up Patches' insulin at WalMart last night. Yes, I know...Walmart. The vet suggested filling the prescription there, I guess because it is cheaper than anywhere else. And, at $100/bottle, I decided that wasn't a bad idea. I was worried that I would be tempted to buy other things there, but I needn't have. WalMart's stuff is utter crap. ( Read more... )

The vet tech noticed that my Patches cat drank a lot of water while she was boarded over Memorial Day weekend, so the vet took a fructosamine blood test on her, which indicated that her blood sugar is very high. She's been diabetic for years, but we've been able to keep in under control with special food. Now it seems she'll have to go on insulin. ( Read more... )

Ki, my youngest cat, seemed pretty lathargic Tuesday. He was just laying around, wasn't interested in going outside, and not very interested in food. His nose felt warm and dry. This past Saturday I took my Patches cat to the vet so he could look at a bare patch of skin I had noticed on her tail. His diagnosis was a flea allergy. In the over three years I have lived here I’ve never seen any evidence of fleas, but there was no mistaking the tell-tale flea dirt in her fur.
